L-Carnitine L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino-acid derivative that plays an essential role in cellular energy production. It transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they can undergo beta-oxidation and be converted into usable energy. L-Carnitine also assists with removing certain metabolic byproducts from cells. Because it is concentrated in metabolically active tissues such as skeletal and cardiac muscle, L-Carnitine is widely studied in relation to fatty-acid metabolism, mitochondrial function, exercise physiology, recovery, and cellular energy balance.
